Govt. Run = Bad for You

If anyone thinks that Government Run Health Care is a GREAT IDEA I suggest that you speak to a veteran. Just in case you don't happen to know any I am posting a copy of a letter to a veteran from the VA that was received in the mail today.

Dear Patient:

The Regional Advisory Group of the network has reviewed the need for subjecting patients to frequent, painful fingersticks in order to check blood sugar when the frequency is not clinically necessary. In the case of people with diabetes who are not taking insulin, frequent blood sugar testing, especially on a daily basis, is not found to be useful in the maagement of their care. The reasonable exceptions to this arise with a change in medication or a new medical problem occurs.

Because of the above and our concerns for subjecting patients to unnecessary discomfort, we are limiting the supply to one box of 50 strips every 180 days for patients who take their diabetes medicine by mouth. Your primary care provider will determine the frequency of testing.

Feel free to dsicuss this with your doctor so that the need for testing is made clear to you.

Sincerely,

Joseph A. Pelleochia, M.D., F.A.C.P.
Chief of Staff

When I read this letter I did not see it as concern for the well being of Veterans with diabetes nor did I buy the claim of wanting to make testing less painful. If they are that concerned about testing being painful why are they not offering alternative testing site meters? If they are concerned about the cost of test strips for the meters then why not use meters that do not require coding so that fewer errors occur which means less strips are used?

The man that received this letter has diabetes from Agent Orange exposure. He served his country faithfully. He fought for the American way of life and the Government's big thank you to him and all the other Veterans like him is to reduce supplies and services available to them.

If they are willing to treat the people we owe the most to in such a cheap, unreasonable, and ungrateful way -How will they treat you???????

Last Night's Virtual Town Hall

Last night we had our own virtual town hall on Weekly Reality Check. It was very informative. No US Congressmen/ Congresswomen came to our meeting to hear our concerns about Health Care Reform, but I know of at least 2 that I  invited. We had a very Brilliant, Thoughtful, and Talented man, T. Finnan, that explained quite a few of the problems with the Bill in the House. The entire show was not all talk. In an effort to reach out to younger audiences that might be bored with just sitting and listening to folks talking 3 songs by Michael Adams were played. I feel that supporting efforts of people that are being creative and using their freedom of speech to help educate the next generation should be recognized. There are a couple of of strongly wordered phrases in his songs and a swear word or two, but the use is still mild compared with other songs that I have heard grade schoolers listening to.

The Mixing of Government and Religion.

I am offended as a Minister and an American by the comments made by President Obama to the leaders in the faith community. I don't think that his plan to reform healthcare is a good one. On the Weekly Reality Check I've spoken out against it. In fact I am preparing to take on President Obama's speech this evening with my good friend Rev. Pinkney, but before I begin the prep for tonight's show I would like to share a couple thoughts with you.

As a Minister I am offended because people come to ministers for help during a crisis. They trust us to tell them the truth, to offer them comfort, support, and guidence. How are the people to trust what we tell them if they have to worry about us pushing President Obama's version of morality on them? As ministers our instruction, our guide to helping others comes from the Word of God NOT the word of President Obama.

As an American I am angered by the way President Obama implied that to disagree with him is to be a liar. Did I wake up in some Twilight Zone Episode??? Why would any U.S. President try to silence his opposition in such a foul manner? Many brave men and women fought to secure and maintain our freedom. Some even paid the ultimate price so that you and I could have a voice. As president, Obama, should be celebrating and honoring our Vets not insulting them by trying to make it unamerican to disagree with him.

In closing I ask that before you hesistate to exercise your freedoms because it is viewed as unpopular that you take a moment to remember those that died so that you may live free. Honor their sacrifice and exercise your freedoms daily.

Together We Can Make A Difference!
